    Concluding the regular season

    BOG Jun 16, 2011
    Good Morning BOG!

It was a gorgeous day on the Fields of Glory. Most of the team was battling hangovers from the previous night.

I did RPS and won, but since we were waiting on one more person, I opted to be away so we could kick first.

First Inning: Sokchhan bunts and gets on base. Jenny bunts, the fielders get her out, but Sokchhan makes them pay as he rounds all of the bases to score. 1-0.

Second Inning: With no more cleanup kickers in the rest of our lineup, we had to rely on good old fashioned strategy to bring runners in. Marc kicks a nice ball, and winds up getting himself to 2nd. Bill gets up, and his presence is too much for the other team and they walk him. Frank gets up and kicks a nice line drive to advance everyone. Bases loaded. Tracey kicks it down the 3rd base line, Marc speeds past the ball and the catcher to make the unlikely score. Everyone else advances, and Tracey gets an RKI.

In the bottom of the inning, we continue to show that we're hung over with a comedy of errors like two people colliding in the field, and bobbled balls at the base. We give up 1 run to their captain. 2-1.

Third Inning: In the bottom of the third, we allow their speed guy to get to third. After a popup, he's still waiting on 3rd. A guy comes up who looks like he can bring the runner in. Bill throws him some nice pitches, and he starts fouling them. Before he's fouled out, he pops it to first, (Hooper? Frank?) catch the ball, the speedy runner tags up, we get there fast and he hesitates and we peg him to get the double play and preserve our lead. 2-1.

Fourth Inning: We're back to the top of the lineup. Sokchhan does the same thing. Jenny bunts next, but this time they don't catch her, and Sokchhan gets to 3rd. Apparently this is our new duo. The Asian Express right next to the Bald Alex Express. Someone: "Sounds like two restaurants right next to each other." Uhl gets up and slams the ball, bringing Sokchhan home. 3-1.

The remainder of game we go into lock down and play good defense... for a hungover team. Final Score BOG 3 - MS 1. We finally won a game after a happy hour while hung over!

MS didn't want to go to Irish Times. I put a little effort into convincing them, but they weren't budging. I wasn't budging either because I needed to give the equipment bag to a guy who never showed up... so we could've gone to Exchange if we wanted to.

With no opponents, I asked DMB to come join us after dinner since they didn't have any opponents either. HF3B was the last team that showed uo to Irish Times, but when they realized they didn't have an opponent either, they went to Hooters. They invited us and DMB to join them, and we both declined.

Right after dinner, there were some promotion for "Jeremiah Weed." Two women were giving out free shots of this Malt Beverage. Most people said it was too sweet. In true BOG fashion, those who did drink it, flipped the tiny cup.

Regardless of the lack of teams, we did play multiple games of flipcup. A first we did sides. Team 1 was Pete, Festa, Hooper and the Hopkins'. Team 2 was Beth, Valerie, Marc and Uhl going twice. Team 2 smoked Team 1 5-0. Then we played Big Cup Tiny Cup. Team 2 continued their dominance 5-0. Then we played one round of Five fingers and Team 2 won again.

Then DMB showed up and joined us. Natalie and Chelsea joined Team 1, and Judy, Joe and a new Chelsea joined Team 2. First game, Team 2 won again.

Then the amazing happened... Team 1 won. And won again.. and again.. and again.

The next game was Team Survivor. Same teams. Team 1, the team that was getting smoked earlier in the evening was on a tear. Only 2 people were voted off the team, and Team 1 came down to just Uhl playing 7 cups vs. Team 1's remaining 5 people. Team 1 wins again.

For the last flipcup game of the evening, we played Ultimate with the last 2 flippers required to do Tiny Cup Flipoffs. Uhl beat Pete in the finals.

After we closed our tab, we moved to the Patio where we sat until 1 AM talking, BS'ing, and people watching.

    Quotes from last night:

Festa: "We beat MS. - Multiple Scoliosis."
Uhl: "It's about time. I've been sending them money for years"

Festa: "Put this table in the corner"
Pete: "Nobody puts this table in the corner"

(in the Women's room, overheard by Valerie and Beth)
Jeremiah Weed Girl 1: "Can we leave now?"
Jeremiah Weed Girl 2: "We can't, we still have 3 cans to give away"

Said by many: "Which finger do you want?"

    Uhl: "I'm doing two fingers!"

    Beth: "I'll fill my Tiny."

"Finish this sentence. Bill and Teds _____".

Marc: "I've got the only name that's also a verb"
    (blank stares)
    Marc: "Mark your papers..."
    Valerie: "Oh... Alex your umbrella"
Uhl starts pole dancing with the umbrella

So that concludes the regular season. We finished with a 7-2 record, which is our second best record behind our Spring 2007 season that got us to Boston.

    BOG Jun 9, 2011

    Good Morning BOG!

Oh Air conditioning! How much I've missed you!

So it was a hot muggy game last night, but we came out in force! We had 21 BOG, 2 BOG Alum and, 1 friend!

BOG Alumni Paul Shaw, and Matt Wank came to cheer us on.

Dylan played RPS for us and lost to Arif. That may have been GTB's only victory last night and they may continue to rub it in to Dylan for the next week.

GTB took home, so we got up to kick first. In the first Sokchhan scores on a Pete line-drive. 1-0.

In the second, Uhl scores off of a RKI.

In the third, Callie is on 1B, 2 outs. Marc kicks a deep ball into right field along the foul line. It's fair. Both Marc and Callie round the bases. Callie scores, Marc stays at 3B. Bill kicks a ball to 1B, and after a series of errors, Bill is safe at 1st, and Marc scores. 4-0.

In the bottom of the 3rd is when GTB finally exploited our ability to shoot ourselves in the foot. They scored 3 runs that inning, all due to missed catches and overthrows. 4-3. Whoops.

In the fourth, we went 3 and out. When we took the field, the highlight catch of the game goes to Mary. On a kick to RF, Mary gets under the ball and still has time to take off her sunglasses, toss them to the grass and catch the ball. A few plays later GTB gets on base and is threatening again. Callie's friend Chris picks up the ball in shallow CF and rockets it at the base runner just short of 1B to get the last out of the inning.

In the fifth, Sokchhan kicks, there's a throw at 1B. Sokchhan plows 1B the same time as 1B goes to catch it. Collision. The both get up.. shake hands.. and Sokchhan takes off for 2nd.. because the ball was still rolling away. The refs gave him the base. Sokchaan scores 2 plays later off of a Chris bunt to make the score 5-3. When we take the field, we go into lock-down mode and hold them off to make the final score BOG 5. GTB 3.

At the bar, Alec Yu joined us for BOG Alumni night. We had 23 people stuffed into the BOG Room. After dinner we did our warm up game.. which wasn't much of a warm up because a.) it was already warm in that room and b.) We pretended the 2 tables were a "U" and tried to do insides vs. outsides. The problem with that was the insides team won all of the games and the anchors on the outside team never got to drink.

Then we tried our 23 person game of Ultimate. The winner of 23-person ultimate came down to Hooper and Callie. Callie wins.

We played a few rounds of B's vs. V's before GTB was ready. It was a back and forth game that may have ended up 3-2 in favor of the men.

Our A-team of 8 took on GTB's A-team of 8. Immediately GTB wins the first round. The shock was akin to seeing a cute puppy and going to pet the puppy only to have it snap at you. That woke us up and told us they came to play. Fine. We won the next 5 games.

Our B-team (captained by Frank), which surprisingly had a star-studded cast of players like Pete, Beth and Valerie beat up on GTB's A-team a little more by winning 5-1. We were 1 person short of being able to field a C team. Drats. Next time.

That's when we attempted to do the 41-person game of Ultimate. Well - it wasn't quite 41 because not everyone played and we really couldn't fit that many people around the tables in that room. (There was suggestions to go downstairs to the empty Dungeon, but we already had an open tab going). The actual number of people is unknown but it was roughly 30. So 27 rounds later it came down to Pete, Sokchhan and Uhl. Tie. 2 cups. Tie. 3 cups. Next round Sokchhan goes out because one of his cups was a different size. 3-cup Show-down between Pete and Uhl. Uhl is declared the champ of Ultimate Ultimate.

We shut down the bar around 12:30 with GTB. That's the longest we've stayed out on a long while.

    Week 7 Recap

    BOG Jun 3, 2011
    Good Morning BOG!

Nobody from iB will challenge me to a Salsa dance-off.

Right before the game, I went to them to ask permission to play Paul. They accepted on one condition - they play a girl down because Michele was stuck in traffic. I accepted these terms. Even if Paul wasn't a factor, would I have taken the forfeit? I dunno because had I forced them to forfeit, I would've come off as the bigger douchebag. I think I did the right thing regardless of the outcome of the game.

The game really isn't worth mentioning. Grinnell kicked a line drive right at my face. Unfortunately, my face can't catch. Amy had the best kick of the night - sending a ball into mid-left field along the foul line. Final score 11-0. My apologies to those who didn't even get a chance to kick.

We rolled with about 10 people at the bar. We played Ultimate to get our top 5 which consisted of me, Pete, Hooper, Callie, and Emily. Pete won Ultimate, which is his first of the season. While we were waiting for iB, the Pink team challenged us to 7 on 7. We swept them pretty cleanly 5-0. They were upset when we had to kick them off the table to let iB on. Of course they were really upset their their opponents (Miniballs) didn't show up to the bar to play flipcup. Poor form.

iB finally got around to play us. As predicted they brought 5.

Hooper wanted no part of this game, so he yielded his spot to someone else. Beth and Uhl did a 2-cup flipoff for the spot. Beth won it.

So me, Pete, Beth, Callie, and Emily took on Paul, Beil, Michele, Eddie, and Ryan. We come out of gates very shaky. They won the first 3 rounds. Mind you - that was the first losses of the season too. With a 0-3 hole, that's when we finally get our composure back. We take the next 3 games to tie it up. They win the next one. 3-4. We tie it up again. 4-4. Deja vu anyone? The next round, everyone on the table one-flips, but sadly we were a half-second behind. Our our undefeated season comes to an end.

After that we played some Guys vs Girls with iB. Guys took an early lead, but I think the Girls finally took it.

Once that was over, we did one long 9 on 9 match. It was 8 BOG and Chelsea from DMB vs. 7 iB and 2 BOG. Yeah.. I still can't figure out why we gave iB Callie and Beth for this game. This went back and forth for a while and I really didn't keep score.

After that we used the same teams to play Team Survivor. The BOG side took an early beating losing 4 straight rounds. It's worth noting that Marc wasn't voted out first. After the 4 straight votes, that's when this hit the brick wall known as Festa-Pete-Uhl-Hooper. That's when the tide turned and the iB side lost 4 in a row. Predictably, they voted off Beth and Callie first. Unfortunately, that's where that brick wall ended Hooper then Festa then Pete were voted off. Uhl gave his best 9-cup effort, but it wasn't meant to be.

And that's when the bouncer took our table away. The dance party never really got started.. or if it did, it didn't last beyond a song or two. I would say it was an early night... but it was 11 by time some of us started to leave.

Alright - so enough of that.

NEXT WEEK - We're back on Wednesday and we're back to playing mortal teams. Next up we have our soon-to-be-hyped-much match vs. GTB. GTB has actually improved on the field this year. They have digressed at the bar. Next week, I'm actually going to encourage my email to go to our opponents. I'm going to send out the gameday email next week on Tuesday afternoon. This gives the email plenty of time to circulate around D-Street.
