Good Morning BOG!
The evening started out with me, Bill, and Sokchhan reffing In the Pink and Cool Name Pending. Cool Name Pending came out dressed like cheerleaders complete with skirt, pom-poms, and wore custom-made "Saved by the Bell" t-shirts. (Go-ooo Bayside!) I'm assuming since Pink came out dressed like they were ready for the playoffs, CNP decided that their statement would be that they were going to get gang-banged by the varsity football team.
In the Pink came out in a bad mood... maybe it was because they were wearing PINK!
Well - as anticipated, the #13 seed, Pink completely crushed the #20 Cool Name Pending. I mean steamrolled so that nobody knew the final score. Despite all of that - Pink was still in a bad mood.
So when anyone wonders why Cool Name Pending stuck around to be BOG's cheering section, now you know... or maybe they just liked cheering for me. I guess we'll never know.
Since we're the #4 seed, we had our choice of home or away, so I picked home. Pink, still angry that they're wearing pink, took the field, and we made easy work of them in the first inning. There was a controversial call at 2nd where the base-running girl complained that Mary was blocking the base. After some arguing, the ref called her out... and it was going to be one of those games.
When we took the field, our lead-offs put on a clinic of what not to do in a playoff game. 3 and out. ;-)
In the second, our defense held some more. When we got up, our next 3 did their best impersonations of the top 3. It was a very good impersonation. 3 and out. ;-)
In the third, Steve had a nice double play to end the inning. He caught the ball - and the runner who didn't tag up properly from 1B. Next up was the Bald Alex Express. Uhl line drives the ball - and is the first BOG'er to get to 1B. Hooper does the same, advancing Uhl. Festa gets up and does his best bunt-up-the-1B-line to not only outrun their catcher, but assure Uhl and Hooper advanced. Callie kicked next, kicked a foul ball near 1st base - where it was caught - but that was enough to distract the fielders from Uhl tagging up. This is where the Pink team learned that you could tag up on a foul ball. Marc, Beth and Eric made it on base, Marc was called out at 2nd. Dylan got up, kicked, it was caught, but Pink lost count of the outs and tried to get all of the base runners out... before they had to be reminded that the inning was over. 2-0 us.
In the fourth, we put on some more defense. We got back up again, but weren't able to score.
In the fifth, we entered shut-down mode to preserve our lead. 2 outs, we let one of their speedsters get on base. One of their kickers kicks towards left-short. Their speedster gets to 3rd before the ball does... but overruns third. Before he could get back, the ball was waiting at 3rd for him. The ref called him out - game over. Of course Pink argued that call. The call stood. Final Score BOG 2 - Pink 0.
It was an ugly game, but we came away with the win.
At the bar we played lots of flipcup with Balls to the Mall (the Orange team). Regular, Ultimate, Partner, Tandum, and some other things I don't remember. At the end of the night, a handful of us went into Chinatown and hung out at Rocket Bar where we admired Pete and Uhl's late-night McDonald sandwiches.
Next up - Super Saturday. We play #12 Derelict My Balls at 9:45 AM on Saturday.
